Letter: Plea bargain doesn’t end the sadness
Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998 | 12:09 p.m.
Jeremy Strohmeyer, 19 years old, 18 at the time of Iverson's death, a high school honor student and star volleyball player, is now going to spend the rest of his life in prison.
David Cash Jr., high school classmate of Jeremy and evidently also quite bright, is in college majoring in nuclear engineering, and will not be prosecuted for his part in the death of Iverson, but he will be hounded by someone for the rest of his life for not going to help.
John and Winifred Strohmeyer, no doubt, agonize each day over what they did or didn't do and what if ... blaming themselves for every turn Jeremy took.
Charles Iverson, although he may also have played a part in the death of his daughter, and Yolanda Manuel, Sherrice's mother, now have a void in their hearts which will never be filled because they have lost their child. It is difficult to find any victory in this. Even for the state of Nevada.
