County Briefs

Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998 | 12:13 p.m.

The Clark County Commission was expected to finally determine Tuesday who would pay for what portion of two pedestrian bridges on a Las Vegas Strip intersection, but the issue was delayed -- again.

Officials from the Flamingo-Hilton, Bally's, Caesars Palace and Barbary Coast hotel-casinos asked for a 30-day delay while their assessors try to determine how much each property will benefit from the pedestrian overpasses.

The resorts are part of a newly created Special Improvement District. Assessment fees -- used to split the cost of the $12 million project with the county -- are based on the benefits to each hotel-casino.

Town Center examined

Clark County Commissioner Lance Malone is looking into ways to address concerns of county residents neighboring Las Vegas's new Town Center project.

The commissioner said he considered forming a recommending committee that would listen to concerns from people in and around the affected area and review proposed development.

Malone, however, said meetings that would involve city officials and county commissioners may become too cumbersome. He suggested one way to assure county residents they would not immediately be annexed by the city is to require a 40 percent build-out in the Town Center.

He said once the area is developed, the county could consider annexation. Malone planned to run his proposal past Las Vegas officials.
