Cassidy announced Wednesday that he will leave the show in December to pursue other projects.
The former "Partridge Family" star took over the show's lead role from Michael Crawford in November 1996.
"From day one, MGM Grand believed in me and my vision for this show," Cassidy said. "They allowed me to help make 'EFX' the best it could be, and together we created the biggest and best production show on the planet. It's been a wild ride - and a genuine pleasure."
Cassidy said he will spend time promoting his new CD, "Old Trick, New Dog," and will also pursue concerts and television projects.
MGM Grand has not announced a replacement for Cassidy.
