Brief: Review-Journal, others seek tax abatements

The operations of National Vitamin Co., Porterville; and Global Source Technologies, Newport Beach, will be reviewed by commissioners on Thursday.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal is also seeking a $2 million tax abatement for a $40 million press expansion project expected to create 60 jobs, commission officials said. That application is scheduled to be heard Nov. 12.
National Vitamin, a supplement and nutrient distribution company operating in Southern Nevada, is investigating relocating its manufacturing plant in the state.
Global Source Technologies, which provides a technical support facility for automobile financial services, is considering a back-office call center in Nevada.
The commission determines whether tax abatements or grants would stimulate employment in the state. Commissioners consider whether the expansion would occur without the tax break and the impact a break would have on competitors.
