Letter: Calls about bees repeatedly ignored
Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998 | 9:25 a.m.
It stated that there are not enough honey bees to have a swarm of them in Nevada, and if you see three bees together they are probably killer bees. It also said that the only way to kill them is with soapy water.
I called the number that was listed in the article and got a machine, to leave my name. I called 911, they gave me another number to call, and another machine answered and said they would call right back (they never called.) An hour and a half later I called Metro and said they would call me back. They never called.
Finally my security guard came over and he got me the name of an exterminator. He was the only one to come over and even offer to help or do anything.
This city had better wake up and try to start to control this situation now, because the scariest part about this is that the schoolkids were walking home from school at that time and were playing with a ball. Think what would have happened if that ball had hit those bees. There will be an innocent child getting killed from them if our city and county government doesn't start doing something right now.
The city knows the bees are here and they haven't even thought of what to do when people call in for help. I called the Agriculture Department and two other places to do with animals and pests and no one has ever called or got in touch to find out if they really are killer bees. They don't care.
After dark, my husband and son-in-law squirted the huge ball of bees with some soapy water and it killed most of them. I also saved some bees in a plastic bag, in alcohol, in case someone from the county just may want to see if they are killer bees. Fat chance. They don't care.
