Construction group endorses Berkley
Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998 | 1:18 a.m.
The Building Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO today endorsed Democrat Shelley Berkley in Nevada's 1st Congressional District race.
The BCTD, which represents 15 unions nationwide and counts roughly 30,000 members in Nevada, doled out the endorsement during a news conference this morning that doubled as rallying cry for union members to head to the polls this fall. The group's announcement follows the Nevada AFL-CIO's endorsement of Berkley earlier this year.
Berkley received the nod for her general pro-labor stance, said Robert Trenkle, president of the Southern Nevada Building and Construction Trades Council.
Berkley faces Republican Don Chairez, Libertarian Jim Burns, Independent American Jess Howe and independent candidate Steven Strehlow in the Nov. 3 general election.
