Venetian not expecting problems despite differences with union

Venetian developer Sheldon Adelson has been at odds with the powerful Las Vegas union since he refused to open the Strip resort as a union hotel.
Company officials said they are offering a wage and benefit package that matches or exceeds contracts negotiated by the Culinary Union, which represents about 40,000 casino workers.
The 3,000-suite megaresort, scheduled to open in April, started a 24-hour telephone employment line Monday to begin screening applicants for jobs at the new resort.
Officials expect 80,000 phone calls over the next four months.
