Letter: Murder case should bother all citizens

Monday, Nov. 30, 1998 | 11:30 a.m.

When my cousin was brutally murdered I was attending Eldorado High School. I can remember when I saw his body laying on the ground with his feet hanging out of a sheet as they showed it on the news. He was not wearing any shoes as the murderers had stolen them along with $9, the only money he was carrying.

John Brown Jr., my cousin, was not just an airman, he was a son, a brother, a cousin and, most of all, a human being. He also was someone who was studying to be a minister. He was a person who cared about others with a compassionate heart.

In regards to all the newspaper articles over the last several weeks, in my opinion they were very one-sided. Nobody bothered to interview my cousin's family. No one in our family could testify at the hearing. John's voice was not heard that day. Once again the victim is silenced.

Did anyone remember the other people who were injured besides John? Why didn't this young man help when the shooting spree began? He could have gotten out of the car and told police when the first shot was fired. If he would have done so John would still be alive.

I personally have no sympathy for anyone who participates in a murder. Whether they're white, black, yellow, or purple, a human is a human: God made us all.

Our country is failing to pieces, our children, family and friends are being murdered, and the people who are doing the murdering are walking free. Does anyone else see the problem with this picture?
