SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
The UNLV volleyball team can greatly enhance its NCAA Tournament aspirations with a victory over Brigham Young in tonight's Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament semifinals at the MGM Grand.
The match will begin at 7 p.m.
The Rebels (23-7) won their first postseason match in history Wednesday, knocking off Utah 16-14, 15-12, 15-9. But they figure to have their hands full with a 27-2 BYU team that is ranked No. 6 in the nation by USA Today.
UNLV hopes to get another strong effort from Cimarron-Memorial grad Angie Sylvas, who led the Rebels against Utah with 13 kills.
Before the tournament, UNLV coach Deitre Collins said a top four placing in the tournament might be enough to get the Rebels into their first NCAA Tournament. But a victory tonight probably would eliminate all the guesswork.
San Jose State meets Hawaii in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. The Spartans pulled off the shocker of the tournament thus far on Wednesday, knocking off Colorado State, the top seed from the Mountain Division, 7-15, 10-15, 17-15, 15-8, 15-10.
