Gusty winds buffet western Nevada
Monday, Nov. 23, 1998 | 9:30 a.m.
Gusty winds buffeted the Sierra and western Nevada early today and were expected to keep right on gusting as Thanksgiving approaches.
A wind advisory was in effect through this evening in the Sierra and around Lake Tahoe down into the western valleys. Forecasters called for winds of 15-35 mph with gusts to 70 mph over the higher elevations.
Wind-prone areas of western Nevada were to see gusts to 45 mph before conditions calm down tonight as a cold front passes through.
The front was to be accompanied by rain and snow this afternoon and tonight in the mountains with 2-4 inches around Lake Tahoe by morning and 5-10 inches above 7,000 feet. That would include Donner Summit on Interstate-80.
