Obituaries for November 18, 1998

John D. Alexander, 73, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Chicago. A resident for two years, he was a wholesale beverage driver for 25 years, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Teamsters Local 744.

He is survived by one daughter, Michele Alexander of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Thora Alverson

Thora Alverson, 83, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born June 2, 1915, in Sunnyside, Utah. A resident for 47 years, she was a lab technician for a chemical company and a member of the Henderson Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Alverson and Brent Alverson, and one sister, Nykki Kinsley, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Clyde Stevenson of St. George, Utah; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Thursday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Memory Gardens.

Jean Botsford

Jean Botsford, 72, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born June 6, 1926, in McCook, Neb. A resident for 55 years, she was a retired clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Southgate Chapter 18 of Las Vegas.

She is survived by her husband, Dean; one daughter, Susan Botsford of Reno; one son, Gary Botsford of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-6 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Alice 'Allie' Bourbeau

Alice 'Allie' Bourbeau, 74, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. She was born April 7, 1924, in Lemington, Utah. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired casino hostess-cashier.

She is survived by one daughter, Jackie R. Sheahan of Henderson; one son, Brent Newman of Sandy, Utah; one brother, Glenn Beck of Layton, Utah; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services and burial will be in Utah.

Theresa Darcy

Theresa Darcy, 74, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Dawson, N.M. A resident for 10 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas V.; one daughter, Carol A. Wockley of Pittsburgh; one son, Thomas P. Darcy, and two sisters, Virginia Pruett and Dorothy Deller, all of Las Vegas; three brothers, Louis DiMartini of Las Vegas and Mario DiMartini and Anthony DiMartini, both of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Rita de Sener Pont Domis

Rita de Sener Pont Domis, 56, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born May 12, 1942. A resident for 10 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Karel; three sons, Robert de Sener Pont Domis, John de Sener Pont Domis and Karel de Sener Pont Domis Jr., all of Las Vegas; her parents, Elly and Rudolf Raaff of Newport Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Edith Schotel of Bellflower, Calif., and Sonja Kuzara of California; three brothers, John Raaff of La Habra, Calif., Rudolf Raaff of Cerritos, Calif., and Donald Raaff of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

Stella Nadine Driscoll

Stella Nadine Driscoll, 70, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 20, 1928, in West Virginia. A resident for six years, she was an assistant manager for a dairy firm.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Schwartz of Las Vegas and Shelia McKool of Los Angeles; one son, John Driscoll, and two sisters, Lorraine Farr and Leatrice Yates, all of Maryland; three brothers, Wayne Dye of West Virginia, Randy Dye of Maryland and Wendell Dye of Wisconsin.

Visitation was scheduled 3-4 p.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be private.

David Matthew Elliott

David Matthew Elliott, 25, of Las Vegas died Sunday. He was born June 18, 1973, in Arcadia, Calif. A resident for 10 years, he was a tile setter.

He is survived by one daughter, Alana Marie Elliott, his mother and stepfather, Nancy G. Campbell-Rodriguez and Samuel P. Rodriguez, one brother, Steven M. Elliott, and one sister, Joanna M. Elliott-Glass, all of Las Vegas; one uncle, John D. Moretti of Brea, Calif.; three cousins; and his grandmother, Dina M. Moretti of Las Vegas.

Howard A. Frazier

Howard A. Frazier, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Atlanta. A resident for 18 years, he was a retired hotel cook and World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Woncho; one daughter, Teresa Frazier of Las Vegas; two sisters, Catherine Colbert of Atlanta and Romana Bell of Chicago; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-5 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in True Love Missionary Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Warren 'Jack' Handley

Warren 'Jack' Handley, 72, of Las Vegas died Monday in a Los Angeles veterans hospital. He was born April 1, 1926, in Indiana. A resident for 31 years, he was an automotive installer, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the Shriners, Masons and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie "Rosie"; three daughters, Charlene Vinyard of Hampton, Va., Laura Handley of Gainesville, Mo., and Elizabeth Whitlock of Choctaw, Okla.; one son, Smokey Joe Handley of Overton; four sisters, Merle Thomsen of Prescott, Ariz., Ann McCrackin of California, Mary Schlegel of Burns, Colo., and Rose Vanleer of North Highlands, Calif.; one brother, Russell Handley of Prescott; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2:15 p.m. Nov. 30 in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Genevieve A. Hunter

Genevieve A. Hunter, 82, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born June 17, 1916, in Chicago. A resident for 18 years, she was a factory supervisor.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters, Dorthy Pescatore and Lucille Smith; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Samantha (Sandra Rosen) Kolod

Samantha (Sandra Rosen) Kolod, 61, of Atlanta died three weeks ago in Atlanta. She was born in Missouri. A Las Vegas resident until one year ago, she was a graduate of Las Vegas High School and a casino employee, most recently at the Horseshoe.

She is survived by two sons, Todd Seabury-Kolod of Minnesota and Scott Kolod of San Diego; and five grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. An Atlanta funeral home handled arrangements.

Ruth Miles Kover

Ruth Miles Kover, 93, of Las Vegas died Nov. 11. She was born March 19, 1905, in Phoenix. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired dancer.

She is survived by one daughter, Kitty Kover Masino, and one son, John Kover, both of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Charles W. Lockett Sr.

Charles W. Lockett Sr., 74, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. He was born March 16, 1924, in Philadelphia. A resident for six years, he was a pharmacy sales representative and a World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Navy veteran who served in the 1st Marine Division during World War II and on numerous aircraft carriers.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; two sons, Robert Lockett of Middletown, Calif., and Charles Lockett Jr. of San Diego; one daughter, Karen Koeller of North Las Vegas; and one grandchild.

No local services are scheduled. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Rose Ann Majewski

Rose Ann Majewski, 88, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. She was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Chicago. A resident for 16 years in Las Vegas and most recently three years in Henderson, she was a retired factory worker for a metal cap manufacturer.

She is survived by two sons, Norbert Majewski of Las Vegas and Ralph G. Majewski of Henderson; one daughter, Joan Harriet of Chicago; three sisters, Mae Zalewski of Kailua, Hawaii, and Victoria Solzak and Emily Kowalski, both of Chicago; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Thursday with a 5 p.m. rosary in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Terry L. Marshall

Terry L. Marshall, 50, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 6, 1948, in Overton. Raised in Overton and Mesquite, he moved to California, but returned to Las Vegas in 1989. He was an escrow company owner-operator and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Cecily J.; four sons, Tad Bradley Marshall, Leon Cecil Marshall and Samuel Allen Marshall, all of Las Vegas, and Tyson Eliot Marshall of Provo, Utah; three daughters, Ann Marshall of Cedar City, Utah, and Sarah Marshall and Elizabeth Marshall, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Robert L. Marshall of Springville, Utah; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled 5-8 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Thursday in the LDS Hazel Crest Ward Relief Society Room. Trinidad T. Martinez

Trinidad T. Martinez, 73, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born June 17, 1925, in Gonzales, Texas. A resident for seven years, he was a retired saloon owner.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; two sons, Robert Martinez and Jerry Martinez, and one daughter, Rosemary Markham, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Tiny Martinez of Eloy, Ariz.; one sister, Juanita Soto of Phoenix; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. services Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

Elizabeth Olson

Elizabeth Olson, 84, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born July 26, 1914, in Bear Creek, Mich. A resident for 40 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Gene Olson of Milwaukie, Ore.; one daughter, Ruby Olson of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Etta May Sheley

Etta May Sheley, 84, of Las Vegas died Tuesday. She was born March 10, 1914, in Oklahoma. A resident for six years, she was a retired bank teller, a member of United Women of the Moose and an auxiliary board member of United Hospital.

She is survived by two daughters, Berna Rickman of Las Vegas and Candice Holmes of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; two stepsons, Duane Sheley and Richard Sheley, both of Longmont, Colo.; seven sisters; two brothers; 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Edna 'Bug' Simpson

Edna "Bug" Simpson, 75, of Henderson died Monday in a local hospital. She was born June 11, 1923, in Lamark, Ark. A resident of Boulder City for 30 years and most recently of Henderson for 10 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Lana J. Campbell of Henderson; two sons, Jerry Simpson of Las Vegas and Kenneth Simpson of Salt Lake City; three sisters, Mildred Pierce and Pat Fairbanks, both of Salt Lake City, and Betty Bandy of Kanab, Utah; two brothers, Bill Nordin of Salt Lake City and John Nordin of Oregon; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Palm Chapel, Henderson. Burial will follow in Boulder City Cemetery.

Robert Edward Weaver

Robert Edward Weaver, 80, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Illinois. A resident for 10 years, he was a farm dealer and a World War II veteran.

He is survived by nine nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10:45 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Bernice C. Witt

Bernice C. Witt, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Smithton, Ill. A resident for 18 years, she was a retired real estate clerk.

She is survived by one son, Dennis Whitaker of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter, Vivian Bee of Warren, Mich.; two brothers, Clarence Acker and Woodrow Acker, both of Smithton; and one sister, Florence Rice of Jonesboro, Ill.
