Letter: Scouting for food, and to help build character
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998 | 11:48 a.m.
Their quest is 135 tons of food for needy families. In a nation that is looking for good news, I think this qualifies. Besides working throughout the day to collect this food, Scouts will be learning at a young age to help others.
As Abraham Lincoln put it, "A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He is going to sit where you are sitting, and, when you are gone, attend to those things which you think are important."
Please help these Scouts learn the importance of helping others by filling the yellow bag they will leave at your door with nonperishable foods. Scouts will be back starting at noon on Nov. 21 to pick up the bag and then forward it to the Salvation Army food warehouse.
