Letter: Only president’s faults get attention
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998 | 11:51 a.m.
President Clinton eliminated the national debt, and put us in the plus column for the first time in how many years? Not to mention what he has done for the economy -- lower unemployment, a raise in minimum wage and lower interest rates. I could go on and on, but I think it is obvious that we are all much better off because of his accomplishments.
I realize the president should be a trustworthy person, and it is not good that he lied, but what he did was personal and should not have been made so public. Why did everyone need to know all about what he did! The only one he should have had to confess that to was Hillary. How many other presidents do you suppose have committed adultery? And lied about it?
President Clinton has done a superb job. So he made a bad choice about a moral issue, and then was ashamed to admit it. Considering all the good he has done for us, I think any idea of impeaching him for a stupid mistake is absurd. Everybody needs to forget about Lewinsky and look at the big picture.
