Cimarron continues tradition with faculty play
Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998 | 4:37 a.m.
Staff members at Cimarron-Memorial High School will continue a tradition tonight that began when the school opened its doors seven years ago -- putting on a play to help raise money for a college scholarship fund.
"We look at it as donation of a month out of our lives for the kids," said Principal Ken Bedrosian, who has appeared in all of the staff productions.
This year he plays the Wizard in "The Wizard of Oz."
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Thursday and Saturday.
A scheduled Friday showing was canceled so it would not interfere with the school's football game at Sam Boyd Stadium. The Spartans (9-3) will play Elko (9-2) in the playoff match.
The plays put on by the Cimarron staff have raised more than $30,000. Seniors selected by a committee in the spring receive $1,000 college scholarships.
Bedrosian said the play is not only a great cause of deserving students, but is a bonding activity for the staff.
He said teachers and support personnel, as well as some students, participate in the production - either on stage or behind the scenes.
"Kids think it's kind of neat to see the staff step out of their box," said Bedrosian.
The plays are the same ones performed by drama students earlier in the year. This allows the same sets to be used and lets the students compare the work of the staff with that of the kids.
Tickets are $5.
