Elko police investigate car-jacking
Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998 | 2:15 a.m.
"It's just not the same Elko it was 20 years ago," Elko police detective Randy Park said Tuesday.
The woman, whose name has not been released, works at First American Title Co. She was parking her car at the business lot about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday when a man approached, police said.
The suspect told her he had a gun and forced her keys away from her. He told her to get on the other side of the truck, but she escaped out the other door, suffering a scrape on her leg, police detective Randy Park said.
The blue 1995 Ford pickup was found later Tuesday near Elko High School. But police, county sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol still were searching for the suspect.
The suspect was described as a white male with sandy brown hair. He was wearing a black leather jacket and had a tattoo on his wrist above his right hand, Park said.
