Brief: Detroit casino developments stalled

The cement companies are balking at the city's plans to relocate them, and estimated costs for the move are rising, the newspaper said. "If they don't give us what's fair, no one's going to see casinos any time soon," one cement company executive said. "We'll be going to court."
Other problems threatening the proposed year 2000 opening of the new casinos include the slow pace of both licensing investigations and the building permit process and ongoing opposition by a group called the Citizens Coalition.
MGM Grand Inc. and Circus Circus Enterprises Inc. are participating in two of the Detroit casinos.
