UNLV golfers win tourney

The fourth-ranked UNLV golf team held on to its second-round lead during Sunday's final round and captured the team title in the 18-team GolfWorld/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational at Hilton Head, S.C.
The Rebels, playing on the par-72, 6,651-yard Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes Golf Course, won their first team title of the season by shooting a final-round total of 291 and finishing the 54-hole tournament at 5-under-par 859. Georgia finished second at 862, Clemson was third at 866, Houston finished fourth at 868, while Georgia Tech rounded out the top five at 869.
Individually, UNLV was led by sophomore Scott Lander who shot a final-round four-under 68 to finish in 13th place at even-par 216. Edward Loar of Oklahoma State captured the individual crown by shooting a final-round 67 and 54-hole total of 10-under 206.
Other Rebels competing were seniors Chris Berry and Charley Hoffman who both tied for 15th at 218, junior Michael Kirk who finished tied for 23rd at 219, and junior Jeremy Anderson who finished tied for 25th at 220.
