The Holiday Hotel-Casino shut its doors at midnight Sunday, a month ahead of the previously planned closure of the 41-year-old hotel-casino on the Truckee River.
Customers were ushered out of the club at midnight.
Earlier in the day, Carmen DuBois watched her husband play the slots while she reflected on the casino she's patronized for more than 30 years.
"This was the in place in town," she said. "It was so elegant. The judges came here, the lawyers.
"And tourists. You got to know the tourists who come through four or five times a year."
Casino officials initially planned the shut down for the end of this month, but moved the date up after business dropped off when the closure was announced.
The 174 employees who lost their jobs will continue to be paid through Nov. 29, casino officials said.
Owners are trying to negotiate a sale of the property.
