Appeal filed in Brown recall

A week after the secretary of state rejected a petition requesting a recall election for North Las Vegas City Councilwoman Paula Brown, the group organizing the effort has filed an appeal.
A random sampling by the secretary of state's office of 500 names on the petition submitted by "Citizens for Higher Ethics in Government" indicated only 313 signatures on the petition were valid. The citizens group needed 318 verified signatures to force a recall election.
Glen Easter, who leads the organization, said eight of the people whose signatures didn't match the state's master list signed an affidavit confirming they want the city councilwoman out of office.
If the appeal fails, the citizens can fight the decision in court.
