Letter: Economic Opportunity Board helps better the community
Tuesday, May 26, 1998 | 12:03 p.m.
Our programs include: Head Start; senior and handicapped transportation; health services; drug and alcohol abuse treatment; Women, Infant and Children program; Foster Grandparents; Micro Business Development; Child Care Assistance: Housing Division; Child and Family Services; and our public radio station KCEP.
They all make a real difference in the lives of residents of our community. Through these and other programs, we have served more than 41,000 people in the past year alone. But numbers do not begin to tell the story.
Community Action is about real people with real stories. It is about the individuals and families who come to us in need and, with the aid of our helping hand and services, not only achieve self-sufficiency, but go on to achieve great accomplishments.
Community Action is also about volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours of their time and give openly to help others. And Community Action is about the contributions of the dedicated staff who make Community Action work in the Las Vegas Valley.
Throughout the month of May, National Community Action Month provides an opportunity to highlight the contributions of the 1,000 Community Action agencies nationwide.
Our local event is part of a national observance of National Community Action Month. It is a celebration of Community Action successes around the country and it is a time to share our message that Community Action works.
We will honor the achievements of some remarkable people, and reaffirm our commitment to making Community Action work in our future.
