Letter: Canaries in our society’s coal mine
Tuesday, May 26, 1998 | 12:02 p.m.
The canary's system is more delicate than the human system. If the level of gas in the mines killed the canary, the miners knew that danger was near.
America is facing many dangerous situations today. The things that affect blacks and other minorities should serve as a warning to the rest of the nation.
The rest of society or the nation is not immune. We should heed the warning. The canary tried to warn the nation about drugs, AIDS and violence. We did not listen or take heed.
Look around the nation and knock on any door. We can see the result of not taking heed of the warning.
