The Board of Directors of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District approved a $28 million budget at its monthly meeting Thursday for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1999.
Controller Lew Rogers said the figure represents a 16 percent increase over this year's budget.
Carl Rowe, acting district director, said because of a change in the state's funding formula future increases will not be as significant but "barring anything unforeseen we should be able to operate comfortably."
In other business, Rowe said the search for a new director is on schedule and someone should be hired within the six months he initially predicted.
"This is an attractive job with a good income and no state income taxes," noted Rowe. "We can afford to be picky."
Since launching the search last month he said there have been referrals from 23 individuals around the nation.
"They are among the top in the industry," said Rowe.
He said not all of the potential candidates are aware they are on the list.
Rowe said the list will be narrowed down to about ten names and then the list will be turned over to a consulting firm, who will narrow it down even further.
The last three or four names will then be submitted to the board for interviews.
