The Clark County Commission has narrowly approved recommendations by the Affordable Housing Committee to help increase the availability of low-cost homes by removing roadblocks to their construction.
On a motion by Chairwoman Yvonne Atkinson Gates, the board voted 4-3 Tuesday to approve a recommendation to adopt a countywide policy to give priority to projects qualified as affordable housing developments.
Commissioners Bruce Woodbury, Lorraine Hunt and Erin Kenny voted against the recommendation.
Hunt said the recommendation gave an unfair advantage to affordable housing developers, and any recommendation should apply equally to all developers.
Kenny said priorities also should be given to school districts, senior centers and parks.
The board had previously approved two other recommendations by the Affordable Housing Committee to increase the number of affordable manufactured homes and accessory living units per acre.
