Editorial: Allergies, lettuce, bees and El Nino

The heavy rains sharply reduced the supply of California lettuce, causing a boost in lettuce prices that saw some Las Vegas restaurants hike the price of a salad by $1. Heavy rains and cooler weather by El Nino also brought killer bees to Southern Nevada. For allergy sufferers, this year's pollen season was one of the worst ever, partly due to El Nino's excessive rains.
On the bright side, El Nino usually ushers in cooler spring temperatures, and Wednesday was no exception as the high was just 66 degrees on Wednesday. But don't get too comfortable just yet. While El Nino typically spawns cool springs, the flip side is that the National Weather Service is forecasting that this summer Las Vegas will see above-normal temperatures because of -- what else -- El Nino.
