Wendover mayor suspends city manager, police chief

"I suspended both of them pending a look into some alleged, and I must emphasize alleged, wrongdoing and then several complaints. Whether or not those complaints are valid, I really don't know at this time," Sanders told the Elko Daily Free Press.

The complaints come from employees, businessmen and the public, he said.

The mayor said he worked all weekend, researching the allegations, before suspending both officials on Monday. Sanders said he couldn't say when the city council will consider both suspensions, but it probably will not be at the next council meeting since Councilman Reese Melville is out of the country.

Sanders said he will serve as interim city manager and in his absence, City Clerk Karen Shepherd will fill the position. Shepherd's job title also is assistant city manager.

Lt. Fritz Weighall will take over the police department in place of James.
