UNLV Announces Athletic Department Restructuring
Tuesday, May 12, 1998 | 10:34 a.m.
Jerry Koloskie, who has spent 16 years in the UNLV athletic department, has been elevated to the position of acting senior athletic director, Rebels athletic director Charlie Cavagnaro announced today.
Koloskie essentially replaces Dave Chambers, who resigned April 26.
Koloskie will be directly responsible for all duties involving the UNLV men's and women's basketball programs as well as oversee assistant athletic directors Tom Gabbard and Lisa Kelleher.
"My goal is to try to better serve our coaches and student athletes," Koloskie said today. "We need to communicate more with our coaches and make them an integral part of what we do. Hopefully we'll have a more effective operation."
Koloskie previously held the title of assistant athletic director for sports medicine and operations. He will assume the acting associate athletic director role immediately.
"We're very fortunate to have someone of Jerry's expertise and ability," Cavagnaro said in a statement. "He has the best feeling for UNLV and the athletic program as anyone I've been around."
Gabbard and Kelleher also will see a change in their day-to-day duties.
Gabbard will provide liaison duties for the sports of football, men's and women's tennis and golf. Kelleher will concentrate on the remaining Olympic sports of softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, track and field, men's and women's swimming and volleyball.
Both also will play a more active role in the fund raising and marketing opportunities that pertain to their respective sports with Jim Bolla, director of development for the athletic department, directing the fund raising efforts.
Rob Philippi, director of NCAA compliance, and Wendy Myers, director of athletic business affairs, also will have expanded roles under the new restructuring.
"The staff is excited and looking forward to the changes and additions in responsibilities that comes with this streamlining of the department," Cavagnaro said.
