Wendover publisher among victims in fatal crashes

Monday, May 11, 1998 | 10:03 a.m.

Publisher Harry Copelan, 69, was pronounced dead at the scene of his accident Friday on Alternate U.S. 93, 28 miles south of here.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Copelan, northbound in a company van, was thrown from the vehicle when it lost traction on the wet road during a heavy rain storm, crossed the center line and overturned.

The NHP also said Michael Lucero, 34, of Chico, Calif., died on Interstate 80, 10 miles east of Wells, when the vehicle in which he was riding overturned.

Investigators said the driver, Ian Adamson, 33, of Denver, Colo., was eastbound when the vehicle drifted to the road edge and he overcorrected, causing the rollover.

Adamson suffered minor injuries. Another passenger, Kimberlie Flowers, 30, of Fair Oaks, Calif., also was hurt when she was thrown from the car.
