Authorities warn about leaving children in vehicles

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Bob Leinbach said that during a five-month period in 1997, Las Vegas Valley fire departments responded to 135 cases of children locked or left in vehicles.
It's just a matter of time until a child is seriously injured or dies in a sweltering vehicle, Leinbach said.
During June, July and August, temperatures in Southern Nevada exceed 100 degrees about 20 days per month, he said.
That means even with windows cracked, temperatures can reach 150 degrees or higher in a closed vehicle. Those conditions can quickly prove deadly for infants and young children.
