NLV man convicted for rape

A North Las Vegas man has been convicted of four counts of rape and other charges.
It took a District Court jury two days of deliberations before convicting Delask Pittman, who has a history of crime and violence against women, of the multiple crimes involving two women.
The lengthy deliberations this week were over a couple of technical issues, not whether Pittman was the right guy. The jury knew he was because during the rape, he dropped his North Las Vegas jail inmate identification card with his picture on it.
Pittman had gotten out of jail just two days before the May 24, 1996, rape after serving a short sentence for possessing drug paraphernalia.
Charges involving the second woman stemmed from an attempted sexual assault behind a strip club in North Las Vegas two months earlier.
Pittman rejected a plea bargain from Deputy District Attorney Lisa Luzaich before trial. The proposed deal would have let him plead guilty to one sexual assault charge and have a chance to be released on parole after 10 years.
District Judge Mark Gibbons will sentence Pittman on June 19 and could put him behind bars for eight life terms plus 60 years. If Pittman is given the maximum sentence, he wouldn't be eligible for parole until he serves more than 100 years.
