Liberace Scholarship competition at UNLV
Friday, May 8, 1998 | 10:42 a.m.
The competition is open to UNLV music majors who are completing their second year of study. One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to the winner for use in furthering their studies in music for the 1998-99 academic year.
The scholarship is made possible by a grant from the Liberace Foundation. One of the aims of the foundation is to foster achievement among students who are interested in a career in the arts by providing scholarships for college study.
UNLV has received support from the Liberace Foundation since its inception in 1981. The competition this year begins a new era of the scholarship program with a continued emphasis on identifying the most talented students and a new emphasis on supporting them during their junior and senior years of study. The Liberace Foundation also supports an undergraduate student string quartet, called the Liberace Scholars Quartet.
The UNLV Liberace Scholarship auditions are open to the public free of charge. For more information, call UNLV's music department, 895-3332.
