Pahrump teacher with AIDS gets life term in teen sex case

Thursday, May 7, 1998 | 10:40 a.m.

A Pahrump substitute teacher who has the AIDS virus has been sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years for having sex with two teen-age boys. Neither teen has tested positive for HIV.

Brian Lepley, 33, was convicted last month of sexual assault for plying a 16-year-old with marijuana and coercing him into a sex act he was unable to resist.

A four-month relationship with an 18-year-old resulted in a conviction on a charge of intentionally trying to transmit the AIDS virus.

That teenager testified at the Nye County trial that the sex was unprotected, but Lepley said that condoms had been used.

Lepley had been a substitute teacher in the middle and high schools in Pahrump, west of Las Vegas. The 16-year-old had not been one of Lepley's students but Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett told the jury during the three-day trial that Lepley knew the boy and virtually stalked him.
