Letter: Suspicious of water from Coyote Springs
Thursday, May 7, 1998 | 10:50 a.m.
The article stated that Coyote Springs is located 60 miles north of Las Vegas. It is known that nuclear testing above and below ground was conducted for years about 90 miles northwest of the city. This makes the water source about 30-45 miles away from ground zero. Maybe I am being naive, but doesn't that make the water a bit radioactive? Scientists have already discovered advanced movement of contaminated groundwater from the Test Site further away than anyone expected.
The government needs to address this issue and not dump this water into the Muddy or Virgin rivers nor Lake Mead without fully testing it and revealing the results to the water-drinking public. It seemed to me from the article that business deals may be pushing this water down our throats without giving us a chance to evaluate its purity and safety.
