Police will seek governor’s warrant if suspect fights extradition

Wednesday, May 6, 1998 | 11:32 a.m.

Metro Police intend to seek a governor's warrant if a suspect wanted in connection with Timothy Odom's March murder fights extradition from Kansas.

Jimie Slaughter, 25, remained in a Newton, Kan., jail cell Monday awaiting a pending court appearance which police hope will end with his voluntarily waiving extradition.

Investigators assigned to the 30-year-old Odom's murder case were able to gain approval from the district attorney's office for a warrant charging Slaughter with robbery and murder with a deadly weapon after traveling to Newton where they interviewed witnesses and located Slaughter.

Odom was found dead March 29 in the Vegas Motel, 2216 E. Fremont St., room 123, by an employee who had gone to check on the room when the rent became overdue. An autopsy determined Odom died from trauma to his throat.
