Former substitute teacher gets life in prison

Brian Eugene Lepley, 33, also received an additional 10 years for intentional transmission of the virus and six years for supplying a controlled substance to a minor.

Lepley was convicted last month of having unprotected oral sex with the 16-year-old without telling him about his medical status. Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett said Lepley befriended the boy and his friends by bringing beer and marijuana to their parties.

The teen has tested negative so far for the disease, but prosecutors were only required to prove that Lepley engaged in sexual contact that was likely to transmit the virus.

The defense contended Lepley has always practiced safe sex.

Lepley was a former middle and high school substitute in Pahrump, about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
