City Attorney reviews dispute over councilwoman’s address

Herman married last summer and moved to southwest Reno with her husband. She had kept an apartment with a telephone and answering machine within her district.
She stopped renting the apartment on April 3, but rented another one late Tuesday after being told by Lynch that she needs to retain an address in her ward, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.
Lynch said she told Herman she must provide some indication she lives in Ward 4.
"She has to have an address," Lynch said.
For the past month, Herman said she has been with her husband in Vienna, Austria, while he has undergone cancer treatment. She said she gave up the upstairs apartment because her husband can't climb stairs and can't stand smoke.
"I cannot expect him to live in a place that has a lot of cigarette smoke and go up those stairs," she said.
Her new apartment is on the ground floor.
Herman is not seeking re-election this fall, but Lynch said it's unclear whether she can keep her seat until the November election.
