Letter: Privatizing prisons may work elsewhere
Saturday, May 2, 1998 | 4:36 a.m.
Private prisons work well and they save taxpayers a ton of money as shown in the April 26 SUN article, "Private sector secures role in prisons."
After seven successful months and passing inspections, the private women's prison in North Las Vegas, run by Corrections Corporation of America, is saving taxpayers $5 per inmate per day.
With 500 inmates there, taxpayers save almost $1 million per year compared to government jail. We don't even have a problem with sexual assaults by the guards and inmate suicides.
Why hasn't CCA been contracted yet to operate Metro's prisons?
