Letter: Clinton should take on tobacco industry

I feel that President Clinton will go down favorably in history if he will continue to speak up against the tobacco industry, which is proven to have killed millions of people all over the world.
There is so much concerning this issue that can be done by a man in power. Here is his chance to do something good for mankind, if he is not afraid of totally new ideas to kill off tobacco production.
The main problem will be to give other kinds of jobs to tobacco farmers and their workers. Even if some must go on welfare for a while, it will probably cost less than what medical expenses government must pay now for people with lung cancer and emphysema.
Cancer of the mouth and throat are often caused by the disgusting habits of tobacco smoking and tobacco chewing. What is worse is people who never smoke can get bronchitis and lung cancer from second-hand smoke if they have to spend many hours a day in smoky surroundings. This is unfair to nonsmokers.
