Miller names Margaret Springgate as judge

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Bob Miller named Reno lawyer Margaret Springgate to succeed District Judge Mills Lane who is launching a television career.
Springgate was legal counsel to Miller from 1993 to 1995 and then became general counsel to the state Division of Industrial Relations. Since 1996, she has worked for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.
Springgate, 43 was one of three finalists for the post. The others were Washoe County Deputy District Attorney Gemma Greene and Deputy Attorney General Kevin Higgins, who directs the state Workers Compensation Fraud Unit.
Lane is leaving the bench to star in a syndicated television show similar to "The People's Court." He will also be in private law practice in Reno.
