Letter: Visitors upset because they weren’t allowed to see stars
Friday, March 27, 1998 | 10:33 a.m.
We made reservations for 8 p.m. We were promptly seated, and had a full dinner (even dessert). The party began at 9 p.m., even though we had not finished and paid until 9:30. We went to the balcony to watch. We were greeted by the host who firmly said, "I'm sorry but you'll have to move, nobody is allowed to stand there."
So, we went down to the rope. A security guard said, "You can't stand there, you'll have to move." After this comment we went back toward the stairs. We were not impeding anyone's way, and the guard said, "No one is allowed to stand on the stairs, you're in the way."
I couldn't help it, I blurted out, "In the way of what?" "Please move off the stairs," the security guard replied.
My father was quite befuddled. On our way up the stairs, I could see Minnie Driver entering. I stopped, looked and my father was ready to explode. So he told me that we had better go before they shot us for standing.
