Students arrested for bringing guns to school
Thursday, March 26, 1998 | 11:22 a.m.
Gary Smith, school district police detective, said an eighth-grade girl and a seventh-grade boy brought a .22-caliber and a 9 mm handgun to school on Wednesday.
The youths were taken to Wittenberg Hall and held for suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property.
The guns apparently were taken during a robbery at a Sparks home, though it was not known if the students were involved in the robbery, authorities said.
Smith said neither student said why they brought the guns to school, but told police they did not intend to shoot anyone.
The incident came one day after two youths in Arkansas shot and killed four students and a teacher.
