Man indicted in murder

Thursday, March 26, 1998 | 4:50 a.m.

A Las Vegas man has been indicted on murder charges in the slaying of a UNLV student who had twice dated his daughter.

Jack Getz Sr. was ordered Wednesday by District Judge Myron Leavitt to be held on $1 million bail.

The Dec. 26 slaying is alleged to have occurred after Getz confronted Rayburn Ware in a parking lot off Russell Road. Getz's 16-year-old daughter had told her father a few days before that she was pregnant and suspected Ware had used a drug to incapacitate her, according to Metro Police.

Getz had flagged down police after the incident and directed them to Ware's body. He claimed the shooting death was in self defense.

Getz previously had been charged but released on $10,000 bail after paperwork was not filed on time by the district attorney's office.
