Letter: Make marijuana legal for medical purposes
Thursday, March 26, 1998 | 10:50 a.m.
Is this editorial saying that an issue that affects a large number of Nevadans should not be decided by the voters? That instead it should be decided by a small group of legislators, who can be corrupted by campaign contributions from people on both sides of the issue? What happened to democracy?
I was living in California when the medical marijuana initiative was passed there. I am proud that I signed the petition for that initiative, and I am proud that I voted for that initiative. I will be proud when I vote to make medical marijuana legal in Nevada.
People who believe that marijuana is evil and hazardous do not have to smoke it. But the opponents of medical marijuana should not make other people suffer because they want to force their beliefs on everyone who disagrees with them.
