Letter: Las Vegas makes breakthrough in spotlighting visual arts
Thursday, March 26, 1998 | 10:51 a.m.
Why did Dickensheets not criticize the Essie Pinsker, L.V. Collects, Western Art or Black History exhibitions? Were they all just perfect? As far as Guccione's art, in this age of art appropriation, at least he's done some homework. If his retrospective is good enough for the Butler Institute in Ohio and the Nassau County Museum in New York, where Guccione exhibited with acclaimed artists like Hockney, Lichtenstein, Rivers, Grooms and Rauschenberg, why is it not good enough for the Las Vegas Art Museum?
It's all about education, isn't it? Taxpayers and visitors should have the opportunity to view an assortment of artworks that the public in other art meccas is exposed to.
The Las Vegas Art Museum has made a major breakthrough in spotlighting the visual arts. This helps our city to emerge culturally. The museum needs all the support it can get. Why is Dickensheets trying to cut them off at the knees? I hope it's not a personal thing. Dickensheets should make a donation.
What is good or bad art? What is good or bad writing?
