San Antonio Dragons 4, Quebec Rafales 3
QUEBEC CITY--Daniel Shank's 35th goal of the season, 8:49 into the third period, gave the San Antonio Dragons (23-42-8) a 4-3 win over the skidding Quebec Rafales (23-43-7) Wednesday night at Le Colisee. A crowd of 5,132 saw the Rafales extend the IHL's longest active losing streak to six games. Shank leads the Dragons in scoring with 34 goals and 37 assists. Dave Smith scored his 20th and 21st of the season for San Antonio, and Rene Chapdelaine netted his second. Scott Bailey had a strong night in goal, stopping 34 of the Rafales' 37 shots. Burke Murphy paced the Rafales' attack with goals at 12:12 of the second period and 16:21 of the third, both with assists from Eric Perrin and Dave Paradise. Martin Chouinard completed the Quebec scoring. Rafales netminder Pat Jablonski faced 27 shots and made 23 saves.
Milwaukee Admirals 3, Grand Rapids Griffins 2 (SO)
MILWAUKEE--The Milwaukee Admirals (38-29-4) beat the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 Wednesday on shootout goals by Jeff Nelson and Brian Felsner. The game drew 7,683 to the Bradley Center. Milwaukee, who won the five-round tiebreaker 2-1, took a two-goal lead on goals by Marc Hussey in the first period and Shannon Finn in the second. The Griffins (34-28-12), winless in three starts, sent the game to the shootout with second-period goals by Claude Boivin and Matt Ruchty. Michel Picard picked up his 41st assist in regulation, and scored in the tiebreaker. Milwaukee goalie Danny Lorenz turned away 19 of 21 Grand Rapids shots. Ian Gordon stopped 35 for the Griffins, who were outshot 37-21.
Long Beach Ice Dogs 5, Michigan K-Wings 0
LONG BEACH, Calif.--The Long Beach Ice Dogs (49-19-8) scored four goals in the third period on their way to a 5-0 shutout win over the Michigan K-Wings Wednesday before 3,916 at Long Beach Arena. Kevin Todd had two goals to lead the Ice Dogs to their fifth straight win. Newcomer B.J. MacPherson, called up Wednesday from the West Coast Hockey League's San Diego Gulls, scored in his first IHL appearance. Mark Hardy and Doug Ast rounded out the scoring. Ice Dogs goalie Kay Whitmore made 23 saves to take his 25th win, and third shutout, of the season. Michigan's Manny Fernandez weathered a 42-shot attack, finishing with 37 saves. The K-Wings fall below .500, to 33-34-7, and are fourth in the IHL Central Division.
