The state Commission for Cultural Affairs chose from $9.5 million in projects statewide for the $2 million in funding available this year.
A little more than a quarter of the total went to southern Nevada projects, including $63,107 to rehabilitate an adobe on the site of the historic Kiel Ranch, probably one of the two oldest buildings in the state.
The Huntridge Theater was allocated $153,397 for final construction work to preserve the building, which opened in 1944.
Funding for other southern Nevada projects included $166,990 to the Junior League of Las Vegas for the purchase of land to preserve the historic Whitehead Mansion, built in 1929; $80,583 for roof work to the Boulder City Railroad Depot and Clark County Heritage Museum; $44,660 to the Las Vegas Valley Water District for preservation work in the Big Springs area; and $23,301 to Boulder City for work on the Water and Power Building.
In the Reno area, $150,485 was awarded to rehabilitate the First Church of Christ, Scientist Building in Reno after its purchase by a theater coalition.
Also awarded was $129,126 to open the McKinley Park School in Reno as a cultural center; and $62,136 for work on the Lake Mansion in Washoe County.
