Father kills son, self, in Lockwood

Investigators said Marc Whitt, 44, shot his son, Matthew, 13, in the head with a .22-caliber rifle. The elder Whitt then shot himself in an apparent suicide.

Another brother, Marc, 17, and the mother were in the home when the shootings occurred and called police after hearing the gunfire, authorities said.

The father and son were pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and neighbors in the quiet Rainbow Bend subdivision laid flowers at or near the home and comforted each other as word of the shootings spread.

Authorities speculate the elder Whitt may have been upset with his son's behavior.

The case was being handled by the Nevada Division of Investigation.
