Alcohol may be factor in traffic death

Traffic investigators believe a 30-year-old Las Vegas man was intoxicated when he drove into the path of an oncoming car at Desert Inn and Wynn roads early Wednesday, killing his front-seat passenger, Metro Police said.
Dale Scott failed a series of field sobriety tests after the 12:28 a.m. crash and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a felony charge of driving under the influence in connection with the fatal accident, police said.
Arnold Johnson, 34, of Las Vegas was instantly killed when the 1980 Volkswagen station wagon Scott had been driving was struck on the passenger side by a 1988 four-door Chevrolet Celebrity.
Investigators determined that Scott, who was attempting to turn from westbound Desert Inn to southbound Wynn, failed to yield to the eastbound oncoming car, driven by Angela Campagna, 19, of Las Vegas. Scott escaped injury; Campagna reported minor injuries.
Johnson's death marked the 29th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction in 1998. The accident remains under investigation.
