Water Master makes releases from reservoirs

Wednesday, March 25, 1998 | 11:28 a.m.

This will cause a slight rise in the river's level, but the crest from Tuesday's close call is long gone. The Truckee came within a foot of flood stage at Nixon at dusk.

The next storm is not expected until late Friday or Saturday, and forecasters think it will be a snow-maker more than a rain producer. Warm rain triggered Tuesday's runoff as it washed down the Sierra snowpack.

Water Master Garry Stone has doubled the release from Lake Tahoe to leave more room for the next runoff surge.

None of the rivers in western Nevada came close to flood stage this week and the streams and tributaries that pushed close to their brims are receding quickly.
