Teacher of the year running for Assembly

CARSON CITY -- Bonnie Parnell, named Nevada's Teacher of the Year for 1998, is getting into politics.
She said Monday she will seek the Democratic nomination for the Assembly in District 40 which encompasses much of Carson City. The seat is held by Republican Mark Amodei who is running for the state Senate.
Parnell teaches social studies at Carson Middle School and has been a resident of Carson City for 22 years.
Republicans hold a 8,848-6,967 majority over Democrats in the district.
Karl Neathammer, a Republican, has already announced for the seat.
