Gaming expo begins

Casino executives, gaming equipment makers and investors gather at the Sands Expo and Convention Center today through Thursday for the 15th annual International Gaming Business Exposition.

The event, sponsored by Casino Journal magazine, will feature seminars on marketing, regulatory issues, Indian gaming, expansion opportunities and Internet gambling.

Venetian hotel-casino developer Sheldon Adelson was scheduled to make the keynote address this afternoon. In the past, he's used such occasions to argue the convention business offers great growth potential for Las Vegas and to criticize union influence here.

Game designers from major slot manufacturers will discuss emerging technology, revenue participation and other issues. There will be presentations on problem gambling, industry growth potential in Detroit, Canada and Latin America, legal developments and other subjects.
